Tennis – "Petition"

One of the great strengths of Denver band Tennis is the group’s consistency. Every song on Cape Dory and new LP Young & Old are executed with equal amounts professionalism, guitar fuzz, and sweet husky vocal melodies courtesy of Felicity-haired bandleader Alaina Moore. Tennis absolutely excels in its brand of re-imagined 50s and 60s pop: it’s clever, catchy, and fun as hell. However, the band never really strays from that formula. Within Tennis’s consistency also lies their greatest weakness: all of their songs sound incredibly similar, almost like variations on the same theme. And that’s precisely why I can’t stop listening to Young & Old‘s “Petition”—though the instrumentation is largely in the same vein, the song feels like a fresh turn. Moore’s vocal chops are easily Tennis’s greatest asset, and on “Petition” you can really hear her push herself and let loose. There’s a bit of a 90s R&B vibe to the song’s chorus, and instead of fitting into the band’s usual cute indie aesthetic, Moore comes off as a seriously tough and commanding cat. There’s a deeper more soulful resonance and rasp to her voice on and that lends the song an intoxicating sense of release: instead of sounding hip or cool, Tennis sounds downright emotional and mixed up. Personally, raw and mixed up wins out over straight-laced cool every time.

King Tuff – "Wild Desire"

Though a passed around CDR from 2006 dubbed Mindblow predates it, the 2008 LP Was Dead is Kyle Thomas’s only properly released album as King Tuff and it plays like some sort of secret super-powered freaked-out jukebox: a near greatest hits-quality collection of riff-heavy glam-fueled power-pop that begs for repeated spins. The record may only be a few years old, but the vinyl has already earned itself cult classic status with three sold-out pressings and hefty prices on eBay. Though Thomas keeps busy playing with everyone from J. Mascis to Seth “Hunx” Bogart and releases records under other aliases like Happy Birthday, rumor is we’re finally getting a second King Tuff album this year, this time with a producer in tow—Bobby Harlow of Go and Conspiracy of Owls. The new album was recorded last summer over a two-week span in an abandoned Detroit schoolhouse. Though no details are available yet on the release, one of our favorite labels, Suicide Squeeze, has what may just be the first sneak peak of the King’s new work in “Wild Desire.” The track is part of Suicide Squeeze’s 2012 single series and will be available on limited edition 7″ vinyl April 3rd along with B-side “Hole In My Head.” So, how good is “Wild Desire”? Well, let’s just say there’s talk of outer space and enough glitter, sparkle, and six-stringed shreddage to take you there.

Is it time for voice acting in The Legend of Zelda series?

Link should never speak; this is something that I have heard now for years from various gamers. However as much as I enjoyed Skyward Sword and its story was well told through text I at times felt that this particular Zelda game was crying out for voice acting more than any other.

I can see why people would not want voice acting in a Legend of Zelda game I am sure some gamers out there are still traumatised over the terrible voice acting in the Legend of Zelda CDI games, or even the animated TV series. This is fair enough nothing would kill the atmosphere of a game more than if the voice acting was like it was back then. However there can be no denying that video games have come on leaps and bounds in terms of voice acting. As long as you have good actors and a director who knows what they are doing then there is no reason not to thin it could be done very well.

Truth be told you may not even need Link to speak, using Half Life as an example it has a very interesting and a emotional deep story without you’re character ever saying a single word. This could be one way of adding voice acting in the Zelda games, have the story be told around Link. It is a risk and if Nintendo did not do it right then it could spoil the game. I have played more than a few games over the years that have had the story spoiled by some really bad voice acting.

I personally think that the next incarnation of The Legend of Zelda needs voice acting. As we have seen from the tech demo on the Will U if it looks anything like that then it will look fantastic. It would be such a shame to still have to read text boxes in a game that has that kind of breath taking visuals.

Workdone:
Well getting pm’s like crazy…some believe it and some dont, but yes we removed the watermark, but only 90% of it. Then we had a choice to blur it or not for the finishing touch. If we didnt litely blur the area you would be able to see the outline of the watermark, so we litely blur it. Last 2 screenshots will show examples. After that was all done, it was a pain to get this file saved in this new program and we had to read up on it. After that was done we insert it into vdub and did our usual, levels, brightness,contrast,and litely ran a smoother.
